Lost my phone, found some flowers

My phone died this week β€” completely gave up the ghost β€” and I found myself on an unexpectedly quiet, screen-free walk. No pictures, no pinging. Just wrens singing to each other in the poplars, skylarks impossibly high overhead, the first violets of spring nestled against desiccated grasses, and a rather magnificent cormorant who has taken up residence at the pond. Honestly, it was a reminder of how much is out there when you just look. I have a new phone now and I'm back β€” but I'm still thinking about that walk.

This week's Substack is the one I wrote on that phoneless walk β€” luminous things spotted in the hedgerows, and some thoughts I'm still mulling over. Come and read it with a cup of tea:

Until next time,

May is when the hedgerows begin to fill and the summer season gathers energy. I’d love you to come and look at the flowers with me.

"You'll never look at a flower the same way again."

I'm Ling Warlow β€” artist, educator, and wildflower obsessive based on the Wirral. I teach paper flower making in my studio and at workshops across the UK, and I write about creativity, nature, and the making life over on Substack. If you've ever looked at a poppy and wanted to understand it from the inside out, you're in the right place.
